Composer – electroacoustic & instrumental concert works
My primary current focus is acousmatic electroacoustic music, particularly multi-channel pieces for fixed media. I also blend interactive and fixed medium electroacoustic elements with instrumental resources, particularly in works that incorporate improvisatory elements.
My electroacoustic and mixed compositions have been presented in many festivals and broadcasts, in Canada and abroad—including the UK (Birmingham, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Edinburgh), Brazil (BIMESP), France (Phonurgia Nova), Greece (ICMC), USA (SEAMUS, ICMC), China (Soochow University) and Australia (ISCM World New Music Days/Aurora Festival).
Many of my earlier instrumental works blending through-composition and directed improvisation were composed for the Canadian collective Upstream and its many guests and collaborators. Those have included Symphony Nova Scotia (conducted by Peter Lieberson, and by Peter Wiegold), Barry Guy, Conrado del Rosario, Tom Walsh, Jean Derome, Akikazu Nakamura, Michiyo Yagi – and many others.
Please see the Media Kit section for a detailed list of works.
Performer/recording artist – improvised & electroacoustic music
The current focal point for my live performance work is subSet, a flexible small ensemble I direct, that blends acoustic and electroacoustic resources.
Before subSet, I co-founded and performed regularly with the composer-performer collective, Upstream, 1990-2000. I also performed on (and produced) Upstream’s first CD, Open Waters, in 1991. I continued to perform intermittently with the expanded Upstream Orchestra, and also performed across Canada and internationally with the Paul Cram Orchestra (piano, electronics), recording two discs with that ensemble.
My first solo disc of electroacoustic music, Lieux imaginaires, was released on empreintes DIGITALes, and nominated for an ECMA award.
For information on other recordings, please see selected Discography.
Composer/sound designer – dramatic & visual media
My current dramatic work is focused on original scores and sound designs for professional theatres—most recently Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, HomeFirst Theatre, Eastern Front Theatre, and Neptune Theatre.
I have also composed and produced dozens of original scores for:
- CBC radio—series themes and dramas.
- Film and TV productions—NFB, CBC-TV, independent producers.
- TV and Radio commercials.
- multimedia installations in Canadian National Parks.
Please see the Media Kit for detailed credit lists.
Producer – sound recordings
I produce most recordings of my work, and also work as an independent record producer.

I presently hold a non-teaching Adjunct Professor appointment at Acadia, and a research affiliation with the Acadia Electroacoustic Music Studio (AEMS)
Event producer
In 2003, I co-founded the Oscillations Festival of Electroacoustic Music, and continued as its co-Artistic Director until 2013. We produced festivals in 2003, 2005, 2008, and 2012.
